Implications of high-Mg# adakitic magmatism at Hunter Ridge for arc magmatism of the Fiji - Vanuatu region

چکیده

• Record of adakitic high-Mg# magmatism along Hunter Ridge and Kadavu Island. records limited contribution from subducted sediments. Sr-Nd-Pb arc rocks record the melting subducting South Fiji MORB crust. This slab-melt component is also recorded in common (non-adakitic) rocks. Dehydration serpentinites leads to flux-melting unaltered MORB. High-Mg# andesitic lavas of the Shisheisky Complex, Northern Kamchatka: implications for primitive calc-alkaline magmatism

Primitive arc magmatism and mantle wedge processes are investigated through a petrologic and geochemical study of high-Mg# (Mg/Mg ? Fe [ 0.65) basalts, basaltic andesites and andesites from the Kurile-Kamchatka subduction system. Primitive andesitic samples are from the Shisheisky Complex, a field of Quaternary-age, monogenetic cones located in the Aleutian–Kamchatka junction, north of Shiveluc...

Metamorphic devolatilization of subducted oceanic metabasalts : implications for seismicity, arc magmatism and volatile recycling

Subducted oceanic metabasalts are believed to be a primary source of volatiles for arc magmatism and fluid-induced seismicity. From phase equilibria computed for an average oceanic metabasalt we present a model for subduction zone devolatilization for pressures up to 6 GPa (V180 km). Along high temperature geotherms complete dehydration occurs under forearcs, whereas dehydration does not occur ...

Trace elements in clinopyroxenes from Aleutian xenoliths: Implications for primitive subduction magmatism in an island arc

Trace element abundances in clinopyroxene (cpx) from cumulate xenoliths are used to characterize the nature of primitive magma-forming processes beneath the Aleutian island arc. Clinopyroxenes from deformed mafic and ultramafic xenoliths hosted in a Neogene-age mafic sill from Kanaga Island have widely varying trace element abundances (Sr=8–32, Y=2–64, Zr=2–38, Nd=0.65–16 ppm) that are generall...

Proterozoic ferroan feldspathic magmatism

The Proterozoic eon is characterized by an unusual abundance of ferroan feldspathic rocks that range in composition from granite to quartz syenites to feldspathoid-bearing syenites. Three associations of ferroan rocks may be recognized on the basis of major element compositions: (1) metaluminous alkalic to alkali-calcic syenites and granites associated with anorthosites and iron-rich basaltic r...

PETROGENESIS AND ORIGIN OF THE CHENAR GRANITOID STOCK, NW OF KERMAN, IRAN: EVIDENCE OF NEOTETHYS SUBDUCTION RELATED ARC MAGMATISM

The lower to middle Miocene Chenar granitoid stock, a part of Central Iranian volcanic belt, is intruded into Eocene volcano-sedimentary complex in northwestern Kerman in south Central Iran. The Chenar granitoid stock consists mainly of coarse to medium grain granodiorite and monzogranite with subordinate tonalite and syenogranite. Alkali granites as aplitic veins and quartz dioritic dykes freq...
